Ellen Geoffrion
Ellen Geoffrion is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado and a Registered Dance / Movement Therapist certified by the American Dance Therapy Association. For over a decade she has worked clinically with children, adults, and families, integrating somatic counseling, movement-based therapies, grief and end-of-life support, and attachment-informed practice. Her approach centers on cultivating safety through the body, encouraging clients to access deeper emotional truth and embodied resourcing.
Education and Research
Ellen graduated summa cum laude with honors in Dance and Communication Studies from Hollins University, where daily arts-based education shaped her relationship with movement and creative inquiry. She earned an MA in Somatic Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Dance / Movement Therapy from Naropa University. Her master’s thesis on D/MT methodologies supporting grieving children was published in the American Journal of Dance Therapy, and her clinical internships included St. Anthony’s Hospital and The Denver Hospice
Approach and Practice
Ellen’s therapeutic work arises from a belief that nonverbal, bodily-attuned expression opens pathways that words alone cannot reach. She developed the Spring Wind Resourcing Method to help clients move through life events and cultivate inner knowing. Her practice blends counseling, Authentic Movement, Reiki, mindfulness, sensory-informed interventions, and attachment-based somatic techniques that enables clients to regulate, grieve, and reweave personal narratives into meaningful, lived change.
Personal Journey and Leadership
Ellen’s personal losses and performing arts background shaped her clinical focus. The experience of caring for her dying mother in her final months revealed the potency of nonverbal presence and led Ellen toward grief work and end-of-life care. Her years teaching and performing in Boston and New York deepened her belief in movement as transformational. Parenting a neurodivergent daughter and navigating NICU challenges inspired Ellen to prioritize trauma-informed care and advocacy for neurodiversity and sensory needs.
Programs and Community
Ellen has served as a clinical mentor and group leader, led outreach dance programs in public schools, and directed therapeutic groups for women. She now maintains a private practice offering individual therapy, family support, movement-based groups, and clinician consultation. She holds a certification in Aroma Psychology and is training to become a Reiki Master to broaden sensate therapeutic options.
Mentors, Guides, and Elders
Ellen’s first language is movement and dance, shaped early by teachers MaryAnn Potts, Xan Regan, Beth Pope, and Heather Mims, and deepened in college through the inventive mentorship of Donna Faye Burchfield, guest artist Miguel Gutierrez, and collaborative peers who brought joy to choreography and performance. Her practice was further enriched in Boston by Ruth Birnberg, Nicole Pierce, and Cheri Opperman, and by Lucy Joan Sollogub’s guidance in arts-based education within high-conflict public schools. Graduate training introduced her to the healing field of Authentic Movement with Zoe Avstrieh, the rigor of neuroscience with Christine Caldwell, and the fertile dialogue between therapist and artist from Wendy Allen and Leah D’Abate, alongside continued playful movement learning with Ryan Kennedy and meditation practice with Jackie Ashley. Melissa Michaels and Rachael Bonaiuto expanded her capacity for self-inquiry and embodied witnessing, while Jennie Gershater-Lopez and Mary Marsden nurtured her love of nature and inner knowing. She is currently studying to become a Reiki Master with Susan Chiocchi. Ellen treasures the Wilderness Guides Council Elders – especially Anna Coffman, Trebbe Johnson, Sara Harris, and Nancy Jane – for their wise, laughing presence that sees her deeply. Above all, her ongoing teachers are her steadfast husband Jason, her hilarious and soulful AuDHD daughter Coraleigh, and the resilient clients whose courage continues to shape and inspire her work.
Life and Commitment
Ellen lives by the Middle St. Vrain River in Lyons, Colorado with her husband, daughter, tortoise, and two cats. She values play, singing, swimming, and Authentic Movement as sources of embodied healing that enliven the joyful, creative, and compassionate presence that she brings to clients and community.
