At Becoming Self, we believe that your life unfolds in meaningful cycles – each one carrying a distinct energy, purpose, and invitation. Rather than viewing growth as a straight line, this approach honors the cyclical, spiraling nature of transformation where each life cycle represents a unique developmental rhythm, complete with its own themes, tasks and challenges, and common invitations. The patterns of these life cycles help you recognize where you are, what you’ve learned, and what the next cycle asks of you.
We’ve organized these cycles into thirteen seven-year arcs that together form a coherent pathway for the entire lifespan. Each seven-year cycle is named with an encapsulating term that reflects its operative energy – a word that captures the essence of how you were meant to be during that cycle. Alongside this, each cycle includes a primary mode of engagement – the way you were designed to interact with the world, embody meaning, and make sense of your experience. These terms are not prescriptions – they’re invitations. Some may feel like home. Others may feel distant. That’s part of the work.
You are the expert on your own life. These labels are meant to serve you, not define you. If a term doesn’t quite fit, that’s okay. Sometimes dissonance is a clue pointing to what was absent, interrupted, or distorted during that cycle. Events, beliefs, relationships, or systems may have hindered your ability to fully engage with the operative energies of that cycle. You may have been asked to be someone you weren’t, to believe something that didn’t feel true, or to survive when you were meant to thrive.
In a state of operative health – where your lifeworld supports your evolution – you move through transitions with clarity and live the stable periods with vitality. Life flows. Growth feels natural. Hopefully, we’ve all had glimpses of this. But for most of us, operative health was not the dominant experience. Many transitions were turbulent. Many stable periods were anything but. And that’s likely why you’re here.
Life cycles are not isolated chapters – they also contribute to the larger arc of your story. They interweave, echo, and spiral through each other. Depending on your lifeworld – your culture, relationships, environment, and personal history – certain energies may have arrived earlier or later than expected. Some may have been skipped entirely. And yet, the map remains. It’s here to help you reclaim what was missed, reweave what was fragmented, and reimagine what’s still unfolding.
Life Cycle Sequencing is our developmental process for working with the 13 Life Cycles. It is the structural backbone of The Becoming Framework, offering a dynamic engagement with human development that weaves the thirteen distinct cycles into an interconnected story.
Life Cycle Sequencing is built on a radical belief: that living a conscious, intentional life is possible for everyone, and that it is your birthright to do so. No matter what occurred in past cycles, you can begin your conscious journey of holism at any time. You can offer your past selves what they needed but didn’t receive. You can reclaim the energies that were lost or delayed. You can realign your life with your deeper purpose and allow the rest of your journey to unfold with more ease, coherence, and grace.
This process helps you locate yourself in time, understand what’s emerging, and embrace the wisdom of your current cycle. Whether you are navigating identity, purpose, integration, or renewal, Life Cycle Sequencing offers a language and logic for becoming a person that celebrates the full arc of human experience while inviting deeper alignment with your inner truth. It’s a compassionate tool that affirms: wherever you are, you’re not behind, you’re right on time.
Life Cycle Sequencing offers a path of healing, integration, and becoming. And you don’t have to walk it alone. In fact, here at the Becoming Self Institute, we know that none of us can do this life alone. We honor your willingness to show up fully in your own life, and we welcome you to your community of becoming.
